Peace and beauty like I've
never known well up
inside me tonight.
Because you, my dear
little one, are snug in
my arms so tight.
So many times you
call to me - a siren
in my dark night.
And I lift you and
hold you against my
chest and feed my little light.
So soft and sweet, so
pure and true,
these moments so lasting and right.
And I hold you, and you
hold me, soft
fingers with touches so light.
I drink in your beauty; tiny
nose, sleeping eyes and cheeks
so cherub-like.
Then the wave rushes in and
the miracle begins, falling in love
at this breathtaking sight.
Poppy: I have to go to work in Chicago.
Papa: You do?
Poppy: Yes.
Papa: What do you do for work?
Poppy: As a matter of fact, I don't know.
Here's a blog for all those who have ever been on vacation and had "blog withdrawal." Being back at home for a visit with Poppy and Sweet Pea has been quite a challenge when it comes to getting out a decent post. This isn't due to lack of time, mind you. It's due to lack of technology - which leads me to feel like I am in the tech hinterland.
Unfortunately, my parents only source of technology is the ceiva picture frame I sent to them almost 4 years ago now (since Poppy was born). It has been a great way for them to see current photos of the girls without having to get a computer and learn how to check email, etc. The bad news is that they have no computer, no modem, no wireless, etc. at home. No big deal, I'll just bring my iMac and connect wirelessly at Starbucks. Good luck!
Here is what I found out about T-Mobile:
1) T-Mobile su---!
2) T-Mobile won't let me stay connected for more than 3 minutes before it somehow bumps me off TypePad and won't allow me to save anything l write that is more than 2-3 lines.
3) I can't even attach a photo from my computer for a post with T-Mobile.
4) The list goes on.... (Just insert your own T-Mobile story).
So I'm begging for help. If anyone out there has any T-Mobile advice PLEASE send it OR if you just want to vent about your own non-blogging adventures just share and let the catharsis begin.
Note: This post was created on my in-laws computer. Thank you NB and JTB for giving me a few minutes to feed my addiction!

T-Mobile = Twilight Zone! This is my fifth attempt to post from a Michigan Starbucks! Let's see if it actually works this time!
In today's political climate, it's easy to get caught up in the in all of the "mommy-wars" blogging, fundraising, debating, and policitical posturing that's going on out there. It makes one ask: "Who will be brave enough in the future to put themselves (and their family) 'out there' to serve the public?"
I don't know if Poppy will be thick-skinned enough for such a calling but I just found out that she is a natural politician.
Poppy: (Watching the movie Air Bud.) Wow! His mommy is very beautiful!
Me: Yes she is, that's nice of you to say. Is she as beautiful as your mommy?
(I know, I know, leading question but what to you expect from an attorney?)
Poppy: You're beautiful too, mommy.
(Time to get more specific.)
Me: Thank you, but who is more beautiful? Mommy or Air Bud's mommy?
Poppy: Well, you are just both beautiful to me.
I needed that "mommy pick-me up". Thank you Poppy!

Yes, I'm talking about Michigan Football.
Now I know there is a large percentage of you out there that don't even subscribe to football. And I know that there's probably an even greater percentage of you that, due to proximity in the heart of Silicon Valley, are die-hard PAC-10 fans. And I know that there's an even greater percentage out there of PAC-10 and BIG-10 fans who are not even losing one wink of sleep over this. Who am I kidding?! You're probably losing sleep because your out there laughing your head off and still celebrating over Michigan's performance during the last 2 games.
But alas, for those of us with Maize and Blue in our blood, it is a sad, sad moment indeed. With great anticipation we look forward to each season. Sure, the BIG-10 may not be so big out here on the West Coast but believe me, there are plenty of Michigan transplants out here to have made an impact in a variety of ways (Google) and bond together to bask in the glory of a great fall football season. Especially when we start out the season ranked #5.
This was also to be a banner season because I specifically planned an autumn trip to visit family and friends - DURING football season. I made sure I would be there to see my first game back at The Big House in about 10 years (is it that many already?)! I was going to stroll around campus noting the many changes to Central Campus, see the Diag & good 'ol MCB, State Street, etc. I was going to get my unbelievable deli delights from Zingerman's. I was going to head over to hear the marching band warm-up before the game and have a great tailgate with a best friend. Then I was going to enter the stadium with about 107,500 other people who were going to cheer The Victors on to - what else? - Victory!!

Today it is time. Time to look back and remember our past. Time to remember family, friends, co-workers and heroes both named and un-named. Time to open ourselves to the many feelings that will be a part of our day today.
We will never forget our history, we will never forget our community, and will will never let go of our resilience. Here is my moment, thank you for taking yours.
Of course, a mommy in search of the hip in life couldn't pass up the Hip Kid's Boutique in Palo Alto today. A big "Thank You" to everyone who helped organize such a terrific event! (Fundraising and shopping - the perfect combination!) Here is my find of the day: a handmade dress from Ashley Jane for Poppy with a matching jumper (on it's way) for Sweet Pea. It was great meeting you Ashley - you have a new fan! Check out her work here for mod vintage/retro baby and toddler clothes and gifts - like oh so cuddly blankets!
So I'm preparing dinner and Poppy, who has been busy playing in her room, rushes out with an armful of stuffed animals saying: "Mommy, Mommy, you have to come and see this!" So I turn down the heat under my turkey burgers (I've been known to burn a meal or two) and sit as directed at the dining table. Poppy then proceeds to line up the 6 or 7 stuffed animals she brought out while she explains: "Okay, so this goes here, then this one goes here..." until all of the stuffed animals are in a curved line like a backward "C". Then she lay down (proper English? I never get the laid, lay, lie correct. Does anyone remember the rules in a simplified version to share with me?), straight as an arrow, next to the curved line of animals and said: "Look mommy, it's the letter D!"
OMG, call Mensa! What brilliance, what creativity, what out of the box thinking! Is she going to be the next design/art/fashion visionary, or what?! Where do kids come up with this stuff?!
Of course, my first reaction is to take photos to share with the granparents on Ceiva (see below).

Next, I call all of the grandparents to share this fantastic moment. All was well until my mother-in-law reminded me that Poppy "probably saw it on Sesame Street." Then it all rushed back: the man who painted the "letter-of-the-day" everywhere he went (actually, wasn't he "Harry Bentley" from The Jeffersons?). Oh well, I guess the call to Mensa will be delayed until further notice.

Reason #1 that I am now glad that my original travel plans were cancelled (see Serendipity). I just scored tickets for KB, Poppy, and I to go and see The Nutcracker this Christmas season. As luck, fate, serendipity or whatever word you prefer would have it, I happened to turn on the noon news and saw a commercial for the ballet. All I heard were the words "tickets now on sale." So...I called and viola! Great seats to this year's holiday spectacular!
I don't know who is more excited, Poppy or I. This will be her first official trip to the ballet and I cannot wait to see her reaction to it. We almost went last year but by the time I called, there were no tickets left for the family performances. I guess things do happen for reasons and I'll continue to see what other fortunate events might come my way. After all, there are still 10 days left in my "cancelled trip countdown" - so you never know!
What have you found when you weren't looking for it?

Okay, so here is a post that's not so hip but boy, did this bring back great memories!
For those of you who were around in the year 1977, or not, there was a little movie called "Smokey and the Bandit" that has become a "Contemporary Classic." As you might know, I am hopelessly addicted to Comcast cable and this movie is one of the "Top 10 Go-Go Mommy Comedy Must Sees." KB and I watched it "On-Demand" last night and laughed so hard we were certain Poppy and Sweet Pea were going to wake up.
Other than Caddyshack or "The Godfather," this is the source of many quotes that KB and I have affectionately used over our many years together. For example:
"Thank ya nice lady. Nice a_ _!"
"What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law."
"Did you see that? They went right through our roadblock." Jackie Gleason: "You some bitches couldn't close an umbrella."
"Let me have a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it fast I'm in a GD hurry!"
"Junior, there is no way, NO WAY, that you could have come from my loins!" (Pronounced with 2 syllables: LOY-INS). (Wait, I think this was a quote that my father would say to us kids!)
Do you have a favorite too? If so, I'd love to hear it!
I tell you, there's nothing better than watching a boot-legging, fast car chasing, bar fighting, motorcycle stomping, movie with Jackie Gleason as a "good-ol boy" Sherriff, a run-away bride, a hound dog named Fred and plenty of "old time" "CB" lingo. "Highly recommended" on the comedy short-list!
